Problem

Art spaces often feel separated from their surroundings, confined behind walls and distinct thresholds. This can reinforce a division between the institution and the local community. In housing projects with migrant residents, it’s even more important to bridge gaps rather than erect barriers. The challenge is to protect, define and open simultaneously.

Solution

By using Lalace mesh as both enclosure and façade, the structure becomes porous yet defined. The mesh allows visibility and light while providing a sense of boundary and protection. It invites passersby to look in and encourages residents to step out, creating a dialog between inside and outside. In this way the building becomes a social interface as well as an art venue.

Product

Lalace is a woven mesh system suitable for enclosures, façades, screenings and architectural accents. It can be customized in motif, density, scale and curvature to match the design intent. In this project it is applied as an expressive enclosure and façade skin, transforming functional separation into cultural engagement.
