The Red House was the result of a contest where the architect was asked to create a building that would be pay homage to the former red-light district. The Lace Fence plays an important part in the concept of the architect, in creating the contour of an iconic house. The design won the contest and so it changed the sketch from fantasy to reality.

The architect faced a unique brief: design a building that respectfully nods to the area’s past (a red-light district) while serving a modern purpose. The building needed an eye-catching facade that would symbolically reference the past (through a “red house” concept) without being too literal or inappropriate. The challenge was to merge historical homage with contemporary design.
Redfort’s Lalace lace fence pattern was used to craft the outline of a classic house shape on the building’s facade. By using red-coated metal mesh panels in strategic places, the facade appears as a line-drawn house against the sky. This creative use of our product provided the “red lace contour” that the architect envisioned, encapsulating the story of the old district in a modern art form. The Lace Fence added texture and depth, acting as both railing and ornamentation on the multi-story structure.
The product delivered is a custom series of Lalace panels forming the stylized shape of a gabled house on the building’s exterior. These architectural fabric panels are coated in vibrant red, making the building instantly recognizable. Besides the visual storytelling, the lace panels also function as protective railings on balconies and walkways. The contest-winning design came to life through Redfort’s product, transforming an abstract tribute into a tangible, and now award-winning, architectural feature.
