NIK
This was a special project because it was in collaboration with Nike, who was the main sponsor of a brand-new soccer facility in Soweto, South Africa for the FIFA World Cup in 2010. In close collaboration with Nike and an African artist we developed a unique pattern for a huge screen. This was their landmark, separating the parking area from the soccer fields. If you look closely you will find a soccer ball woven into the pattern design.

A new soccer training center needed a boundary wall that provided security and branding. The challenge was to design a partition that stands out as a landmark and celebrates the spirit of soccer and the local community, rather than a plain fence.
In collaboration with an African artist and Nike’s design team, Redfort created a Lalace pattern rich with cultural symbols and a subtle soccer theme. This monumental metal screen stretches above the complex, visible from afar. It separates practical areas (parking) from play areas without isolating them, thanks to the pattern’s openness. The solution also included incorporating Nike branding in an artful, non-obtrusive way.
The delivered woven metal net facade is now an iconic feature of the facility. Stretching across the terrace of the building, it casts dynamic shadows and becomes a photo-worthy backdrop. Made of durable steel, it withstands outdoor conditions and the energetic environment of sports. The pattern – inspired by nu shu (a historic female writing system) and local motifs – weaves together voices and identities, much like the goal of the center to unite people through sport. The Soweto soccer screen underscores Redfort’s talent in turning functional structures into storytelling devices for global brands.
